We’re pleased to share an upcoming screening of The General: Vietnam in the Age of To Lam, presented by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa as part of its Fall 2026 Colloquium.
As Vietnam enters a new era under To Lam, The General examines the forces that shaped his rise — from the expansion of the security state and suppression of dissent to the extraordinary 2017 kidnapping of a Vietnamese official from the streets of Berlin.
We’re grateful to see the film continue to create opportunities for discussion about Vietnam’s political transformation, the growing power of its security apparatus, and what To Lam’s leadership may mean for the country’s future.
